Malayalam cinema is getting bigger day by day. It is not only growing its audience outside of Kerala, but its films are being recognised in other industries also, including Bollywood. The content of Malayalam films is so engrossing that Bollywood filmmakers are unable to stop them from retelling some of the great stories in their own way in Hindi. Here’s the list of five Malayalam films that are being remade in Hindi.

1. Driving License (2019)

Driving License is about an ego battle between a fan and a movie star. The film stars Prithviraj Sukumaran and Suraj Venjaramoodu in lead roles. After receiving a terrific response in Malayalam, it is now being remade in Hindi and will be directed by Raj Mehta. The remake is called Selfiee and stars Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi in lead roles.

2. Helen (2019)

Anna Ben plays the lead in the original film, which won the National Award for Best Debut Film of a Director for Mathukutty Xavier, and Anna received a special jury mention at the Kerala State Awards for her performance. The Hindi remake, titled Mili, will be produced by Boney Kapoor along with ZEE studios. The remake will star Janhvi Kapoor in the lead role. It also stars Sunny Kaushal and Manoj Pahwa.

3. Ayyappanum Koshiyum (2020)

Ayyappanum Koshiyum, just like Driving License (2019), is about larger-than-life egos, but this time it is an ex-army man and a sub-inspector. The original film starred Prithviraj Sukumaran and Biju Menon in lead roles. The Hindi remake will star John Abraham and Arjun Kapoor. Abraham is also co-producing the remake, while Jagan Shakti is attached to direct.

4. Nayattu (2021)

The film was heavily criticised for its flawed depiction of caste dynamics in Kerala. However, if the casting is done right, it can be a powerfully told story. Nayattu is a thriller and a social drama. The Hindi version of the film is being co-produced by John Abraham.
