Marathi actress and Shiv Sena party member Deepali Sayed has accused a former employee of making death threats and launching a smear campaign accusing her of mafia ties, according to sources within the entertainment industry. After her former personal assistant, Baburao Shinde, made several allegations against her in Ahmednagar, Sayed, who joined CM Eknath Shinde's party in November 2022, filed a complaint with the Oshiwara Police Station in Mumbai.

Sayed had ties to the mafia in Pakistan, as well as having acquired Pakistani citizenship and purchasing real estate in both London and Dubai. Oshiwara Police have arrested Shinde on charges of defamation, criminal intimidation, and insult to the modesty of a woman; an investigation is ongoing.

The Oshiwara police say they have filed a case against Shinde, but he has not yet been apprehended. "We are probing the case and based on the outcome we will decide if an arrest should be made in future. We may summon him for cooperating with the ongoing investigation," police officer said.

According to Sayed, Shinde claimed her real name was Sofia Sayed, that she had taken up Pakistani citizenship and maintained a bank account in Pakistan but was actually living in India on a fake passport and had threatened to kill her. She also accused Shinde of morphing her photos with Iqbal Ibrahim Kaskar and hurling allegations of cheating and frauds through a charitable trust that organised mass marriages for couples (the jailed brother of the absconder Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar).

According to Sayed, she fired Shinde after discovering that he had conducted unapproved auditions with a female actor hopeful for a Marathi film.
