On Wednesday, the Supreme Court declined to hear an urgent appeal against an order of the Allahabad High Court for the producers of the controversial film 'Adipurush' to appear before it on July 27.

The speech and usage of slang in 'Adipurush', a reworking of the epic Ramayana, has drawn criticism. The attorney for the film's producers was instructed to bring it up on Thursday by a bench presided over by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud.

A ban on the movie was being sought in separate applications from Kuldeep Tiwari and Naveen Dhawan. Director Om Raut, producer Bhushan Kumar, and dialogue writer Manoj Muntashir were required to appear before the high court on July 27.

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) chairman and secretary of information and broadcasting were instructed by the high court to submit personal affidavits informing the court of the letter and spirit of the rules that must be followed for a film to be certified for public exhibition.
