The most talked film of 2022 Gangubai Kathiawadi, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, recently crossed ₹100 cr at the box office. The actor-director duo Alia Bhatt Sanjay Leela Bhansali appeared in an interview together sharing their experience of working with each other. While talking about the experience the director expressed that Alia Bhatt is his favourite actress in the recent times, leaving the actress spellbound.

Along with Alia’s portrayal of Gangubai, the fans and critics are head over heels in love for the direction of the film as well. Earlier, the film was scheduled for release on 30 July 2021 but it was postponed due to the rising cases and second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the conversation SLB praised her by calling her “cinematically intelligent”, further he added that her eyes were very powerful which made him cast the actress for this role. Alia also expressed that she took up this film for the sole reason of getting to fulfill her childhood dream of working with him. “I discovered that Gangubai is my alter ego. Or, I don’t know whether I have lived with the character so deeply, that now she comes out in moments which I can’t control and people are like, ‘okay, this is not Alia, this is Gangubai.’ So, that’s never happened to me with any character,” said the actress. 

The actress expressed her gratitude and how grateful she is to be working with him. She also mentioned the fact that she signed this movie purely because it was her childhood dream to work with him. SLB also believed that destiny had done its part and how the coincidence took place which is the reason why Gangubai as a character made an impact on his mind.  Bhansali dedicated a dialogue from his film to Alia, as he says, “Alia aayi thi heroine banne, and with Gangu, puri ki puri cinema bann gayi hain” at the end. “Alia aayi thi heroine banne, and with Gangu, puri ki puri cinema bann gayi hain” (Alia had come to be a heroine, and with Gangubai, she has become the whole cinema).”
