Playback singers and other artists have started to demand high rates per song now that the music business is bringing in large dollars for Indian films. Many of the songs that become chart-toppers do so in large part due to the singers' voices and reputations; as a result, many top vocalists routinely charge in excess of Rs 20 lakh each song. There is one musician who costs Rs 3 crore for each song, which is more than 10 times what other musicians in India charge.

While the majority of vocalists in Indian films charge between Rs 5 and 10 million each song, a select few big stars can collect fees of above Rs 20 lakh. Only one artist, composer AR Rahman, though, charges more than Rs 25 lakh. According to several reports, the singer-composer demands Rs 3 crore for each song.

Some stories even state that his per-song earnings can reach Rs 5 crore, although it is impossible to verify those claims. Industry insiders claim that Rahman easily commands a higher fee than any other Indian performer. His fees exceed Rs 1 crore, the highest in the nation, even for concerts and stage appearances.

Shreya Ghosal, who reportedly costs Rs 25 lakh per song, is the highest-paid vocalist in India after AR Rahman, according to sources. According to estimates, Sunidhi Chauhan and Arijit Singh are closely behind with fees of Rs 20–22 lakh per song. Sonu Nigam and Badshah, who want between Rs 18 and Rs 20 lakh per song, are among the highest-paid artists in India in the following category. Shaan, Neha Kakkar, Mika, and Honey Singh are a few more highly compensated Indian singers; according to reports, they all demand more than Rs 10 lakh each song.
