Ayushmann Khurrana is back to exploring a new genre in his upcoming film Anek (2022). The Anubhav Sinha directorial has been one of the most awaited films this year and the makers finally dropped the trailer today, showcasing Khurrana as an undercover agent. The film is slated for a theatrical release on 27 May 2022.

Speaking about Anek, Ayushmann says, "The film is based in the north-east. It is about unifying the north-east India with the mainland. Not many films have been made on the subject. Also, not many actors from the region have come into the forefront. The representation has been inadequate."

While the Meri Pyaari Bindu (2017) actor is known for his versatile roles and his flair for choosing unusual scripts, he states that Anek addresses an issue that has rarely been taken up by mainstream Hindi cinema.

"It's a very very different film which the Hindi cinema has not witnessed in the past. It shows the racism that people from the North-east face in the mainland. It is very disheartening; I hope people from mainland who do such things will realise that they are wrong. This movie will be an eye opener for them," says the 37 year old actor.

On the professional front, Ayushmann has completed shooting for Junglee Pictures's Doctor G which is helmed by Anubhuti Kashyap. In the film, he plays Dr Uday Gupta opposite Rakul Preet Singh. He will also be seen in Aanand L. Rai's An Action Hero which is slated to release on 02 December 2022.
