After her last film Dhaakad which did not do well at the box office, Kangana Ranaut shared the teaser and first look of her upcoming film Emergency. The actress’s look as former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi will leave you surprised. In the quick teaser trailer, Kangana adopts the late PM's appearance, replete with eyeglasses and her starched cotton saree.
The Queen actress shared the poster on her social media handle and wrote, “Presenting #EmergencyFirstLook! Portraying one of the most powerful and controversial women in the history of the world… #Emergency shoot begins.” Kangana has made a point of stating that the movie is not a biography of Gandhi. In the teaser, former US secretary of state Henry Kissinger calls Kangana and requests that American President Richard Nixon greet her as ‘Ma'am’ rather than ‘Sir.’ As Indira, Kangana pauses before responding positively, but she soon turns to her secretary and requests that he should inform the US President to call her Sir.”
Emergency is based on actual incidents that happened in 1975. The movie recounts events that happened while Mrs. Indira Gandhi served as prime minister—one of the most influential women in Indian history. In 2023, it is expected to be released in theatres.
