Fresh details emerge on the release of RRR; clash with Runway 34 and Heropanti 2 on the cards
Helmed by SS Rajamouli, RRR is one of the hugely anticipated films of 2022. After facing several setbacks, the period drama was set to enter cinemas on January 7, 2022. However, the sudden spike in the cases of COVID-19 across the country derailed all the plans and the makers had to postpone its release.
If reports are to be believed, RRR may now hit theatres on Eid 2022. However, if it does release on Eid, it will have to lock horns with not one but two much-anticipated Bollywood films – Runway 34 and Heropanti 2.
“The cases across the country are decreasing. Producers of many films are hopeful that the situation will improve and probably be back to normal by March. RRR is a major tentpole film. It is a high-budget film, and the producers do not want to take chances, as they want to make sure they get good returns,” a source close to Rajamouli informs.
“The pre-release promotions of RRR have created a lot of buzz across the country. The makers are therefore planning to release the film on April 29, which is Eid weekend. The makers are looking at the situation and will then decide and make an official announcement,” adds the source.
The clash with Ajay Devgn’s Runway 34 and Tiger Shroff’s Heropanti 2, however, does not seem very promising for any of the film because they will invariably eat into each other’s business if they all come together.
“All three are big-budget films and if they plan to release on the same day, it will be a huge loss for producers, exhibitors and distributors. While a lot of films have been postponed and the new release date announcements are expected soon, Eid surely looks a bit crowded and it will be a wait and watch game as to who blinks first,” the source signs off.
