Laal Singh Chaddha is an upcoming comedy-drama film starring Aamir Khan directed by Advait Chandan from a screenplay written by Eric Roth and adapted by Atul Kulkarni. It is a remake of the 1994 American film Forrest Gump which itself is based on Winston Groom's 1986 novel of the same name.

Actor-Producer Atul Kulkarni revealed that he wrote the storyline for the upcoming film Laal Singh Chaddha with Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan in mind. The voyage of the movie, an authentic Hindi remake of the Tom Hanks-starring 1994 Hollywood blockbuster Forrest Gump, according to Kulkarni, spans a period of 14 years. He said, “I wrote the script for Aamir. It all began about 13-14 years ago. I’m happy and fortunate enough that it turned out well. Aamir liked it and decided to do it.”

Recalling his conversation with Aamir about their favorite films at the after-party of Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. The actor narrated, “We were talking about the films we like, that’s when Forrest Gump came up. The next day I was supposed to travel somewhere for my shoot but it got canceled. So, I had 10-15 days on my hands and Forrest Gump was on my mind. I had not seen this film in a long time, so I thought I should watch it again,”

Further talking about writing the script, the 56-year-old actor said, “A film like Forrest Gump can’t just be translated, it has to be adapted. Every word was a challenge because it’s such a beautiful screenplay. So, everything is Indianised in Laal Singh Chaddha. It’s a very desi film, made for Indian audiences. It’s an important and lovely film. I think everyone should watch it,”

Laal Singh Chaddha is produced by Aamir Khan Productions, Viacom18 Studios, and Paramount Pictures. Starring Kareena Kapoor, Mona Singh, and Naga Chaitanya in pivotal roles, the flick is slated to hit the theatres on August 11.
