Mallika Sherawat was one of the leading actresses of her time. The 2003 film Khwahish served as her Bollywood debut. She later gained popularity with the 2004 romantic thriller Murder, directed by Anurag Basu, starring Emraan Hashmi. The film went on to become one of the biggest hits of the year, and it was well-known for the steamy scenes Sherawat and Hashmi shared in it.

In an interview, Mallika revealed how she felt condemned by Indians for performing in "bold scenes." She stated, “I think my glamour was overwhelming for them. I am unapologetic about it. I wore a bikini in murder and actresses have worn bikini before me also but I was so nonchalant about it. I was like I have a great body. Do you want me to wear a saree at the beach? No, I will wear a bikini and I celebrated my body because for me that was very liberating for me. But that was too much to handle for people, especially women. Men have had no problems with me. Men love me in India and I love them back. It's just some women who are so vicious to me. I don't know why because I love sisterhood. I love to support money.”

Meanwhile, Mallika is all set to make a comeback to big screens with the film RK/RKay. Rajat Kapoor wrote and directed the film, which also stars Kubbra Sait, Ranvir Shorey, Manu Rishi Chadha, Chandrachoor Rai, and Abhijeet Deshpande. It is slated to release in July 2022.
