Earlier in March, Netflix India announced that it had signed Sonakshi Sinha and Tahir Raj Bhasin to star in its upcoming heartfelt comedy drama, titled Bulbul Tarang. The film was scheduled to go before cameras in April 2021. However, the sudden onslaught of the second coronavirus pandemic forced the makers to put the shoot on hold. The latest update on the project suggests that it has been cancelled by the streaming media giant.

Confirming the development, a Netflix spokesman told an entertainment publication, “With our partners, we have decided not to proceed with the film. We thank the wonderful cast and crew and hope to work with them soon.”

The makers have not divulged as to what led them to drop the film. However, some well-placed sources inform that it was Sonakshi Sinha’s sudden exit from the project which might have caused the cancellation.

Meanwhile, Sonakshi Sinha is presently busy filming her next Double XL. Also featuring Huma Qureshi and Zaheer Iqbal in important roles, the upcoming film is in the last leg of its shoot in the UK. Sinha will then move on to commence work on Netflix’s much-anticipated streaming show Heeramandi, created by acclaimed filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The actress also has horror-comedy Kakuda and an Amazon Prime Video show called Fallen in her bag.
