Oscar winner Marc Baschet to produce Helly Shah's debut film Kaya Palat
Television star Helly Shah, best known for her portrayal of Swara Bose in Colors TV show Swaragini, is all set for her film debut with the international film Kaya Palat (2022). The feature film, co-written by Rahat Kazmi and Shoib Nikash Shah, will be directed by the latter and bankrolled by Oscar awardee Marc Baschet.
Inspired by true events, Kaya Palat is about true story of rival mafias. Set in Jammu, the film will explore the thrilling secrets of the mafia world in the politically volatile state of Jammu and Kashmir. Apart from Rahat Kazmi and Helly Shah, the film also stars Tariq Khan, Swaroopa Ghosh, Mir Sarwar and Rohil Bhatia.
Speaking about her character in the film, Helly told a leading entertainment portal, “Kaya Palat is a story-driven film that gave me a new challenge I was looking for and [it] demands a strong performance."
“The story is very much aimed at the international market, and we are hoping it connects with a cross-cultural audience. My character is going to be very interesting, sarcastic, witty, vulnerable and so much more," she added.
On the work front, Helly Shah has also completed shooting for Arunjit Borah’s short film Zibah - a human-rights based drama that poignantly depicts the cruelty inflicted on young children in the subcontinent.
“Cinema is there for entertainment, but I have always believed that films have the power to highlight important social causes and make a positive change. That is what made me want to be part of this project,” said Shah who is equally excited for both her upcoming films.
