Sushmita adopted her first daughter, Renee, in 2000, and Alisah, her second adopted daughter, in 2010. Sushmita discussed the decision to adopt the girls during an interview. "Becoming a mother was the wisest decision I made at the age of 24," she said. It made my life more stable. People think it was a wonderful act of charity, but it was actually self-preservation. It was my way of protecting myself."
