Vicky Kaushal's 'Govinda Naam Mera' to ditch theatrical release, stream directly on OTT
While the effect of the covid-19 pandemic has evidently subsided and cinemas are witnessing good footfalls again, there are still many films skipping theatrical release and opting instead for a direct OTT release. One such flick is Vicky Kaushal starrer Govinda Naam Mera.
Also starring Kiara Advani and Bhumi Pednekar, the movie is produced by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions and Viacom18 Studios.
As per latest reports, Govinda Naam Mera will release directly via Disney+Hotstar on December 16, 2022. The streaming platform will make an official announcement regarding the release date soon.
The reason behind opting for an OTT release is that the makers felt Govinda Naam Mera, despite being a comic entertainer, lacks ideality for a big screen release. Hence, they direct streaming via OTT is what's most appropriate for the film.
Notably, the satellite and digital rights of Govinda Naam Mera have been sold to Disney+Hotstar at a whopping Rs 62 crore. At present, the budget of the film is at par with the pre-release revenue. This places the makers at a win-win situation- a great thing especially when box office returns these days are so uncertain.
Directed by Shashank Khaitan, Govinda Naam Mera follows the life of the charming Govinda Waghmare (Vicky Kaushal), who juggles his time and love between his wife Mrs. Waghmare (played by Bhumi Pednekar) and his girlfriend (Kiara Advani). A comic entertainer, the film promises to be a laugh riot of chaos, confusion, and fun.
