Filmmaker Hansal Mehta best known for Scam 1992 (2020) and films like Aligarh (2015) and Chhalaang (2020) recalled his experience working with Kangana Ranaut. The actor-director collaborated on the film, Simran (2017), which failed to leave an impression on the audience. Hansal has acknowledged that, despite being a "big star," working with Kangana was a "massive mistake."

In a recent interview, Hansal acknowledged Kangana's talent as an actor but added that their rapport on set was lacking. When questioned if Kangana took control of the film's editing, he responded that there wasn't anything left to edit because they had only captured the scenes that she desired. He said, “She did not take over the edit, to be fair to her, but there was nothing to take over in the edit. We only had the material that she had shot. She is a very talented actor, she is a very good actor, a really really good actor who, I feel, has limited herself by making films about herself. You need not make all the characters become what you want to believe you are."

Meanwhile, Simran was partially based on the true story of Sandeep Kaur, a bank robber who went on the run after losing money at the gambling.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Hansal Mehta will next collaborate with Kartik Aaryan on the film Captain India.
