Thiruchitrambalam had a spectacular third weekend at the box office, taking in nearly Rs. 5 crores. The performance this past weekend was down 57% from the weekend before, which is a pretty good hold in the face of a big new release like Cobra. After the release of Cobra last Wednesday, it did see a considerable drop in revenue as a result of the cancellation of screenings.

Cobra made a good start but was unable to sustain it, allowing Thiruchitrambalam to gain ground over the following few days. Cobra's ownership by Thiruchitrambalam in Tamil Nadu increased from 5% on Wednesday to 45% yesterday. In terms of daily statistics, the movie will shortly beat Cobra, and it might as well happen on a workday.

For a total worldwide gross of Rs. 94.25 crores, the movie has now made an additional $3.20 million (Rs. 25.50 crores), surpassing Dhanush's Bollywood debut Raanjhanaa. It will be the first time for the lead actor in a movie that eventually earns 100 crores of rupees worldwide. It had already surpassed Dhanush's previous biggest-grossing film in Tamil Nadu last week, and it is now solidifying its position with a chance to surpass Rs. 65 crores in the state.

Directed by Mithran R. Jawahar, the family drama Thiruchitrambalam also stars Nithya Menen, Bharathiraja, Prakash Raj, Raashi Khanna, and Priya Bhavani Shankar in supporting parts. Dhanush and Nithya Menen play key roles. The music for the movie was composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
