Aditya Roy Kapur, Mrunal Thakur, and Ronit Roy starred in the key roles of the criminal thriller Gumraah, which hit theatres on Friday. It opened amid subdued attendance at the ticket booths and received mixed reviews from critics. The Hindi version of the 2019 Tamil smash Thadam is titled Gumraah. Early estimates from the industry tracker indicate that Gumraah made Rs 1.5 crore on Friday. Its occupancy rate in the Hindi-speaking market was 11.25%. The last week's releases, Dasara by Nani and Bholaa by Ajay Devgn, which have both been doing well at the box office, presented competition for the movie. Bholaa earned an estimated Rs 3 cr on its ninth day, while Dasara generated an estimated Rs 2.25 cr in sales.

This year, Gumraah is the third south Indian movie to be adapted to Hindi. Each of these movies did poorly at the box office. Shehzada, a previous adaptation of the Telugu film Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo starring Kartik Aaryan, underperformed at the box office and finished its run with just Rs 32.20 cr. Selfiee, a remake of the Malayalam film Driving License starring Akshay Kumar, suffered the same fate and only made Rs 16.85 cr when it was in theatres.
