A. R. Murugadoss’s directorial film Akira starring Sonakshi Sinha in the lead opened decently at the domestic box-office on its first Friday. The movie made a business of Rs. 5.15 crores on the opening day, which is good as the film rests solely on Sonakshi’s shoulders highlighting the action sequences. The film received mixed reviews from the critics but, carried a positive word of mouth from the audience part. Hence, despite the slow start, the film picked up during the evening and night shows.
Akira made more business than other women centric films like Neerja (Rs. 4.70 crores), Mardaani (Rs. 3.46 crore) and NH10 (Rs. 3.35 crore) among others. Sonakshi’s film opened up on similar lines to that of Priyanka Chopra’s Jai Gangajal (5.50 crores).
The action drama will have to hold its grip on the numbers so as to get a strong weekend total at the box-office front.
