Chris Rock says he was slapped by Will Smith over the ‘nicest joke’ he’s made
Chris Rock has apparently brought up the shocking Oscar slap moment. Reportedly, Chris spoke about the incident while performing at Liverpool’s M&S Bank Arena. The comedian in his set reportedly spoke about the nature of the joke and the slap.
According to a news portal, Chris on the Oscar incident said, "Did that s**t hurt? Goddamn right," Rock said. "The motherf***er hit me over a bulls**t joke, the nicest joke I ever told!". The slapping incident took place at the grand Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars. Chris Rock was hosting the 94th Oscars and during his set, he made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith. He was insensitive to a medical condition Jada has and joked about it on the live broadcast indirectly. Will Smith, after shouting at Chris from his seat in the audience, walked up to the stage and slapped Chris across his face. Will Smith on that same night won his first-ever Oscar.
Will later shared a video where he said, "Chris, I apologize to you. My behaviour was unacceptable and I'm here whenever you're ready to talk." He further added, "There is no part of me that thinks that was the right way to behave at that moment." The Academy a week after the incident banned Will Smith from attending the awards ceremony for ten years. Will Smith furthermore, has stepped down from his position as a member of the Academy.
