By bagging 32 awards, she thereby surpassed Hungarian-British conductor George Solti, whose mark of 31 Grammys had stood for more than 20 years. The singer accepted her award and stated, "I'm trying not to be too emotional, I'm just trying to receive this night." She continued by thanking her parents, particularly her late uncle Jonny, who worked with her to create stage costumes before she became well-known. Beyonce has formerly claimed that her interest in dance music and its historical ties to the LGBTQ community was sparked by his battle with HIV.
