Finally, Lipstick Under My Burkha has a release date ft. Konkona Sen Sharma, Ratna Pathak!

The tiff between creative heads and Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) is well known and going on for ages. But in this bickering, often we see good cinema being stalled and crucified, just because some elements from the film depict explicit elements. One film stuck in such tight spot was Lipstick Under My Burkha directed by Alankrita Shrivastava and produced by Prakash Jha. The film was first subjected to its content across the country and then it was CBFC’s turn stall it for a while. But now the good news, Lipstick Under My Burkha will release in theaters on 28 July 2017, though with ‘A’ certificate.

The film got trapped in controversies ever since its first trailer released by Balaji Motion Pictures! Initially many social groups and activists bashed saying it demeans women’s place in society and then CBFC thought most of its sensually explicit scenes should be cut down. But its trailer speaks different tale than what one can see on the surface.

In Lipstick Under My Burkha , director Alankrita Shrivastava depicts stories of four women, from different age brackets stuck in their own dogmas and life, chose to take on a journey to discover their sensuality of women they are, while having their best time. It is a dark comedy that perfectly illustrates the difference between what culture and society assume women from a small city like Bhopal should be and what they really are.

The film will be releasing on 28 July, 2017 in theaters across the country and since the film is passed through the surgical room of Central Board of Film Certification, it should have no problem to be released, which would also be in relief for producers, Prakash Jha and Balaji Motion Pictures.
