Pandit Ravi Shankar Passes Away.

Renowned Sitar player Pandit Ravi Shankar, who was admitted in the Scripps Memorial Hospital in San Diego, US after he felt breathless, passed away on Tuesday evening.

Renowned Sitar player Pandit Ravi Shankar, who was admitted in the Scripps Memorial Hospital in San Diego, US after he felt breathless, passed away on Tuesday evening. He was 92.

He was trained under Baba Allauddin Khan from the Senia Maihar gharana, was popular world over. He also gave music to some notable films like Satyajit Ray 's 'Pather Panchali' and some Hindi films. He was also a recipient of the Bharat Ratna in 1999 along with three Grammy Awards.

Even in the decade of 2000s he continued playing Sitar. He was visited by George Harrison of Beatles in 1966. Celebrity musicians like A. R. Rahman , Vishal Dadlani and Kailash Kher along with eminent political leaders like P.M Manmohan Singh and Gujarat C.M Narendra Modi have mourned the maestro's loss to the nation.
