The magnum opus ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ has the audience eagerly awaiting its release. Veteran filmmaker Mani Ratnam and his team recently unveiled the trailer of the film. Fans are awestruck by the magnanimity of the film. Such outpouring of love was also shown by south superstar Suriya.

Suriya’s reaction to the trailer

Actor Suriya took to his social media to pen down his thoughts on the film. He wrote, "What a spectacle! PonniyinSelvan has the Master’s stamp on it! Mani Sir made a collective dream of many Greats, come true!! Wishing Team Madras Talkies & the cast and crew of #PS1 a roaring blockbuster!".

Rajnikanth’s attendance at the launch

Superstar Rajnikanth attended the grand trailer launch of the film as the chief guest of honour. Speaking to the press he shared how he had imagined late actor Sridevi in the role of Kundavai when he first read the script. He said, "When I read the story, I imagined Kamal as Arulmozhivarman, Sridevi as Kundavai, Vijaykanth as Aditya Karikalan, and Sathyaraj as Pazhuvettaraiyar." He also shared how he longed to be a part of the film but to his surprise, Mani Ratnam rejected his request. He shared, "I wanted to be a part of #PS1 somehow, so I asked Mani sir if I can play Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar. He denied the offer saying my fans would not be happy. Anyone else would have taken it, but Mani denied it and this is what makes him unique."

About the film

‘Ponniyin Selvan’ stars Chiyaan Vikram, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha Krishnan and Jayaram Ravi as the leads. The cast also includes supporting actors Sarathkumar, Prabhu, Lal, Kishore, Ashwin Kakumanu and Aishwarya Lekshmi. The film is slated to release on the 30th of September in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam.
