Pawandeep Rajan, the winner of Indian Idol 12, and Arunita Kanjilal, the first runner-up, have been sued by M/s Octopus Entertainment Pvt Ltd for refusing to film and promote the music album.

According to the legal note, M/s Octopus Entertainment Pvt Ltd approached the Indian Motion Picture Producers' Association and informed them that M/s Sony Pictures Network India Private Limited had entered into an agreement with them for the services of Pawandeep and Arunita, the winners of Indian Idol 2021, who were signed by their members for a romantic album of 20 songs.

"Sony had pledged to offer services of both the performers," according to the agreement, "and the commitment was made before they became the winners of Indian Idol." Their member had announced the album's release at a press conference at great expenditure, but the artists refused to work with the producer after filming for one song.

Despite Sony's pledge, Arunita and then Pawandeep stopped working with the producer on the shoot as well as the promotion and release of the songs.

When Sony was notified, they took no action and instead expressed their support for the artist, and when IMPPA asked for their opinions, they declined, claiming that this particular Sony company was not a member of IMPPA but that other Sony companies were. They claimed that this company solely works with producers of films, web series, and serials.

As a result, IMPPA has demanded that they ensure that the producers are not treated unfairly, and that the artists complete the services that they have agreed to perform on behalf of the artist.
