In its newly released ranking of Top 10 TV shows and movies for the week of November, Netflix has revealed that the South Korean thriller Hellbound has emerged as the most-watched series on the streaming platform, beating Squid Game, also a South Korean original, which has long maintained the top spot on the list.

The series topped the streaming ratings in more than 80 countries within 24 hours of its debut. The K-drama premiered on November 19, 2021.

Hellbound recorded a total of over 43million “hours viewed” on the streaming platform in its first three days of release. It has become the most-watched TV series across both the English and Non-English Top 10 lists, besting other popular releases such as Squid Game (30 million), Arcane (38million) and the second season of Tiger King (30million).

Written and directed by Yeon Sang-ho of Train to Busan' (2016) fame, Hellbound tells a “story about otherworldly beings who appear out of nowhere to issue a decree and condemn individuals to hell,” according to Netflix.

The description goes on to read, “These supernatural events cause great mayhem and enable the religious group The New Truth to grow in influence. A few people, however, become suspicious about its activities and begin investigating its involvement in mysterious events.”

Hellbound is currently streaming on Netflix.
