The Tim Burton-directed "Addams Family" spin-off "Wednesday," the newest hit Netflix series, has achieved a feat that was previously only attained by "Stranger Things" Season 4 and "Squid Game." In just three weeks since its launch, "Wednesday" has received more than 1.02 billion cumulative hours of viewing, according to the firm, with more than 150 million households streaming the programme. This makes it the second-most watched English-language Netflix series right now.

WEDNESDAY

Since its November 16 release, "Wednesday" has become a worldwide phenomenon, inspiring billions of TikTokers, including "Mother Monster" herself, Lady Gaga, who recreated the choreographed dance scene from "Woe What a Night" from episode four has Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams. On TikTok, the hashtag #wednesdayaddams has received 16.9 billion views.

Additionally, the quirky young-adult series was to blame for the rise in Spotify plays of The Cramps' "Goo Goo Muck," which as of this writing has received over 16 million. The song "Running Up That Hill" by Kate Bush was also revived by "Stranger Things," and its popularity on TikTok and Spotify soared.

WEDNESDAY DETHRONED DAHMER

Notably, "Wednesday" dethroned "Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story," the biographical drama series starring Evan Peters from "American Horror Story." "Wednesday" only required 21 days to become a huge hit, and "Dahmer" only needed 28 days to achieve 856.2 million hours, making it the second most watched English-language series on Netflix. The movie "Dahmer" received more than 1 billion viewing hours in a total of 60 days.

For the streaming juggernaut, the accomplishment is noteworthy, especially after it lost over a million users in 2022. In the third quarter, the business eventually added 2.41 million subscribers. Additionally, Netflix lagged behind HBO Max during this year's Emmys, picking up only 26 prizes as opposed to 37 for HBO/HBO Max.

NETFLIX

Netflix received 14 TV nominations and nine film nominations, placing it among the top contenders for the 2023 Golden Globe Awards. Two nominations were received for "Wednesday," including Best Television Series (Comedy) and Best Actress for Ortega.

Does the programme have a chance of winning a Golden Globe? Probably not.

But for Netflix, it's a big deal when a family-friendly programme wins an Oscar, especially when it finished second against shows like "Abbott Elementary" and "Only Murders in the Building."
