Zara Hatke Zara Bachke Review: Vicky Kaushal and Sara Ali Khan shine in Laxman Utekar’s endearing family entertainer

Zara Hatke Zara Bachke Movie Review Rating: 3/5

There was a time in Bollywood when family entertainers used to hit theatres more often than not. But as filmmakers started focusing on other untouched issues, such films took a back seat. After a long time, filmmaker Laxman Utekar, known for Luka Chuppi (2019) and Mimi (2011), brings a true-blue family entertainer called Zara Hatke Zara Bachke. The film stars Vicky Kaushal and Sara Ali Khan in their first outing together. Our BollywoodMDB reviewer has seen the film and here is what he has to say about the same. Read the detailed review here before booking your tickets for the weekend.

STORY: Kapil Dubey (Vicky Kaushal) and Somya Chawla (Sara Ali Khan) are a happily married couple who live in a small house in Indore. Kapil’s parents, maternal uncle and aunt, and their young son also live with them. Though they are a happy family, Somya always feels that Kapil and she have no privacy and hence wants to get a house for the two of them. However, the problem is that they cannot afford a house. As ill luck would have it, they fall for a government scheme and end up faking a divorce to be eligible for a lottery allotment. What happens next forms the crux of the story.

HIGHS & LOWS: Vicky Kaushal is one of the finest actors that we have today in the industry. He never disappoints with his performances. As a middle-class boy in Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, he delivers an endearing performance. His acting is completely natural and you relate with his character to no end. Sara Ali Khan as a Punjabi woman seeking privacy in life is spot-on. She gets some of the best dialogues in the film. She does go overboard in a couple of scenes but you still find her lovable as a small-town girl on the screen. Her on-screen chemistry with Vicky is good. Actors like Inaamulhaq, Sharib Hashmi, Sushmita Mukherjee, Neeraj Sood, and Rakesh Bedi add more fun to the narrative with their stellar performances.

The first half of the film is breezy. Director Laxman Utekar establishes his characters and setting well. He has worked hard on getting every detail right. While the first half is really good, the second half drags and seems stretched beyond a point. It lacks the humour that the first half has in abundance. Having said that, the film leaves you with a fulfilling experience. The music of the film is really good and will stay with you for a long time.

FINAL VERDICT: If you love family entertainers, Zara Hatke Zara Bachke is the right film for you, which is filled with romance, humour, and loads of emotions. Vicky Kaushal and Sara Ali Khan are the backbone of the film, but the supporting actors also do an impeccable job. The music of the film is fresh and one is going to hum its songs for a long time. I am going with 3 stars.
