Karan was working as an assistant director for the film 'DDLJ' when he met SRK for the first time. He was immediately impressed by SRK's talent and charisma. Karan also had some fashion advice for SRK. He told SRK to wear Levi's jeans instead of Wrangler jeans and to unbutton his shirt two or three buttons to flaunt his Adam's apple.
SRK was initially taken aback by Karan's boldness, but he was also intrigued by his passion and confidence. He called Aditya Chopra, the director of 'DDLJ,' and asked him about Karan. Chopra told SRK that Karan was a "townie" and that they all talked like that.
