Year-end 2022: Prominent Indian celebrities we lost this year

Legendary playback singer Lata Mangeshkar, Bappi Lahiri, Raju Srivastava, and other well-known actors and actresses were among the many treasures that the Indian cinema industry lost this year.

Celebrities from India who died in 2022

No matter how unpleasant it may be, death is the sole reality in life, and we must come to terms with it. The Indian film industry lost a number of treasures last year, including Raju Srivastava, Bappi Lahiri, and famed playback vocalist Lata Mangeshkar. These individuals will be remembered for their enormous contributions to art and cinema through their body of work.

Lata Mangeshkar


On February 6, Lata Didi—as she was affectionately known—died at the Breach Candy Hospital from many illnesses, including Covid-19. In addition to thousands of her fans and admirers, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, various Central and State cabinet ministers, Bollywood celebrities, and others attended her public funeral that evening with full state honours at Shivaji Park.

Bappi Lahiri


On February 16, at after midnight, the seasoned singer-composer Alokesh alias Bappi Lahiri—the nephew of the late Ashok Kumar, Kishore Kumar, and Anoop Kumar—passed away from a number of health difficulties. He had a number of health issues and passed away from OSA (obstructive sleep apnea).

Pandit Birju Maharaj


Birju Maharaj, a living legend of Kathak who had been diagnosed with kidney failure and put on dialysis, passed away on January 17 at his residence. He was 83. When his health suddenly deteriorated while he was playing with his grandsons, Maharaj ji, as he was affectionately known, had to be brought to the hospital, where he passed away from a heart attack.

Raju Srivastava


On September 21, Raju Srivastava, 58, who had only recently been admitted to the national capital's All India Institute of Medical Sciences, passed away. On August 10, Srivastava complained of chest pain and passed out in his gym. He was taken to the hospital and put on a ventilator.

Siddhaanth Surryavanshi


Siddhaanth Vir Surryavanshi, a TV actor, passed away while exercising in a gym. The performer was well-known for his roles in the television programmes Kkusum, Waaris, and Suryaputra Karn.

Rakesh Jhunjhunwala


Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, an Indian billionaire businessman, Chartered Accountant, stock trader, and investor, lived from July 5, 1960, to August 8, 2022. After beginning to invest in 1985 with a capital of 5,000, he realised his first large profit in 1986. His estimated net worth at the time of his death was $5.8 billion, making him the 438th richest person in the world. He was a partner in his own asset management business, Rare Enterprises. In addition to being a frequent investor, he served as a director and chairman for various businesses. He was also the founder of Akasa Air.

KK


On June 1st, playback singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, also known as KK, passed away. He was 53. KK was in the city to play at a gathering that the Gurudas College had planned in Nazrul Manch. It was discovered that KK experienced nausea while on stage. The singer returned to his hotel and began to feel uneasy. He was then transferred to the hospital, where the staff declared him dead.

Sidhu Moosewala


Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced on Friday that gangster Satinderjeet Singh aka Goldy Brar, suspected of being the brains behind the murder of renowned Punjabi musician Sidhu Moosewala, had been apprehended in California. The Lawrence Bishnoi gang member Brar relocated to the US from Canada in 2017. He had been there since then. On behalf of the group, he admitted guilt for the horrific killing of Moosewala on May 29.

Cyrus Mistry


Indian businessman Cyrus Pallonji Mistry lived from 4 July 1968 until 4 September 2022. From 2012 until 2016, he presided over the Tata Group. He served as the group's sixth chairman. He was a part of the National Integration Council. He passed away in an automobile accident on the Ahmedabad-Mumbai highway on September 4, 2022. The forensic investigation team determined that the accident's main contributing factor was poor road design close to the bridge.

Vikram Gokhale


Veteran actor Vikram Gokhale, who had been in severe condition, passed dead on November 26, 2022, at Pune's Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital. He was 77. Gokhale has been on "life support" while being hospitalised for some time.
