The slice-of-life picture starring Kajol garnered mainly favourable reviews from critics and other members of the industry, but it flopped at the box office on its opening day. Salaam Venky is far from the Rs 1 crore mark, therefore it has a long way to go before being considered a box office hit.
The opening day at the box office for the Kajol and Vishal Jethwa movie was incredibly underwhelming. Only Rs 20 lakh net were brought in on Salaam Venky's opening day, claims trade website Box Office India. However, it is believed that the film would perform better in the next few days thanks to favourable reviews and cheerful word of mouth.
Furthermore, despite the film's failure to even reach the Rs 1 core mark, it still performed much better than other films that were launched on the same day. Vadh earned roughly Rs 10 lakhs nett, whereas Maarrich earned roughly Rs 5 to 6 lakh nett.
Salaam Venky's budget was Rs 28 crore, hence it would need to gross above Rs 35 crore before being considered a success. Drishyam 2, the next film from Kajol's husband Ajay Devgn, is going to join the Rs 200 crore club.
Kajol and Vishal Jethwa play a mother-son team in Salaam Venky, which is directed by seasoned actress and director Revathy. The protagonist of the novel is a woman who does everything in her power to ensure that her son, who has Duchenne muscular dystrophy, has the opportunity to live life to the fullest. Important parts are also played by Rajeev Khandelwal, Aahana Kumra, Rahul Bose, Priyamani, Anant Mahadevan, and Prakash Raj. Aamir Khan also makes a brief appearance in the movie. On December 9, Salaam Venky premiered on television.
