Speculations about Priyanka Chopra toplining the upcoming biopic on the first Indian woman astronaut in space, Kalpana Chawla, have been around for many years now. The project, to be helmed by Priya Mishra, was expected to mount the shooting floor soon, but now it has hit another roadblock. Reportedly, Kalpana's husband Jean-Pierre Harrison has refused to give away the rights.
As per a source, in spite of getting permission from the astronaut's father, the makers cannot make the film until Harrison gives his nod. “After Kalpana’s demise, all rights associated with her estate are said to have been transferred to Harrison and no one else besides him can give the permission to make the film. Even though Priya may have got the go-ahead from Kalpana’s father, it seems that alone may not be enough to make the biopic. Priyanka’s team has tried to acquire the said rights from Harrison, but apparently, he hasn’t agreed to grant them yet.”
Priyanka has just signed Salman Khan 's Bharat . Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar , the movie hits screens on Eid next year.
