33 crore worldwide collection
Mike Tyson, Ramya, and Ananya Panday are all featured in Liger. The movie's story centers on the MMA fighter character played by Vijay Deverakonda, who overcomes adversity to strive to become a world champion. Although the movie's box office receipts have been questioned, it was made with an estimated budget of Rs 125 crore. Bollywood Hungama claims that the movie only grossed Rs 20 crore in India. However, Dharma Productions claims it opened to a worldwide gross of Rs 33 crore.
Review of audience and critics
Not just the crowd, but even critics, detested the movie. In her review of the movie for The Indian Express, Shubhra Gupta referred to it as a "cringe-fest of enormous proportions" and stated, "There's nothing more delightful than a masala movie done correctly." However, the materials that go into crafting this movie are neither novel nor original: mixed martial arts, snarling boxers, tough-as-nails coaches, and the hero who would crush everyone by himself have all been around for years. The treatment is absolutely poor, and the plot is nothing more than an excuse for one.
The leading lady's creation is not just a sexist misfire, it is positively Neanderthal, and the callous making fun of the guy who stutters (he is once referred to as a "stammering fool" in the English subtitle) is just repulsive. Who in their right mind would write a story with a female character saying, "Guys look at girls from the bottom up," and then have the heroine squirm at that statement? Has misogyny ever been heard of?
Vijay Deverakonda Returning the pay for the movie
There have been rumors that Deverakonda returned the film's producers Rs 6 crore as compensation after Liger failed to fare well at the box office. Additionally, there have been rumors of the cancellation of his subsequent partnership with Puri Jagannadh.
