Rajinikanth is currently riding high on the success of his just released Nelson Dilipkumar directorial, ‘Jailer.’ The movie is currently the second-highest-grossing Tamil film of all time worldwide and has entered the Rs 600 crore club. ‘Jailer’, another film starring Rajinikanth, is currently at first place. And now, Rajinikanth is getting ready to begin filming his upcoming movie, tentatively titled ‘Thalaivar 170,’ which will be helmed by TJ Gnanavel of Jai Bheem fame.
The movie is scheduled to start filming by the end of September, and it will be released in the middle of next year. An insider with knowledge of the project claims that this action drama's cast is expanding daily. Rana Daggubati and Manju Warrier are the most recent actors to join the cast, following Amitabh Bachchan and Fahadh Faasil.

“TJ Gnanavel is looking to bring in some of the most acclaimed actors from across industries on board Thalaivar 170. It’s a special film and he is going all out to bring in the best names to join the cast. While Amitabh Bachchan is from the Hindi Film Industry, Fahadh Faasil has joined in from Malayalam, and Rana has come on board from the Telugu Fraternity,” revealed a close source of the development.
While information about the other characters is being withheld for the time being, reports circulating in the Tamil film industry claim that Rajinikanth plays a cop in the movie. Rajinikanth is anticipated to begin filming for filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj's subsequent project after completing his work on the TJ Gnanavel movie.
“Lokesh will start the prep work on his next with Rajinikanth post the release of Leo. He intends to start his film around March next year,” the source concludes.

Produced by LYCA Productions, ‘Thalaivar 170’ will represent the company's first collaboration with Superstar Rajinikanth since 2.0. It's interesting to note that Rajini also makes a brief appearance in ‘Laal Salaam,’ another LYCA movie directed by his daughter Aishwarya Rajinikanth. On the other hand, Rana Daggubati has always been a huge fan of Rajinikanth and is really excited to work with the great in his upcoming film. The movie is getting ready to hit theatres in December 2023.
