John Abraham has always surprised the audience with the kind of films that he chooses to produce under his banner, JA Entertainment. Right from Vicky Donor (2012) to his latest production venture Attack (2022), the actor-turned-producer has strived to back films that stand out from the rest. Attack, which he also headlines alongside Rakul Preet Singh and Jacqueline Fernandez, is an out-and-out action entertainer about an unbeatable Super Soldier. The big-ticket film is in cinemas now, and if you are planning to watch it over the weekend, here is what our reviewer has to say about it.

STORY: Arjun Shergill (John Abraham) and his team set out on a mission to find one of the most wanted terrorists of the country. Using his intelligence and combat skills, Arjun does succeed in capturing the terrorist. However, the high-profile arrest leads to a deadly terrorist attack later, which claims the life of Arjun’s love interest, Aisha (Jacqueline Fernandez).

Arjun himself is left paralyzed neck down. When he is finally able to stand on his feet again, all he wants is revenge. He agrees to become India’s first Super Soldier, who can operate beyond normal human limits. When terrorists plan yet another attack on the Indian Parliament, and capture the Prime Minister, it is Arjun’s responsibility to not only save the hostages unscathed but also the honour of the country. What happens next forms the crux of the story.

HIGHS: When it comes to pulling off high-octane action sequences, John Abraham can never disappoint. In Attack, he is a one-man army who takes on villains to save the nation. We have seen Abraham breaking bad guys’ bones in several films, most notably Rocky Handsome (2016), Romeo Akbar Walter (2019) and the Satyameva Jayate and Force franchises. But the actor and his team have taken action several notches higher in Attack. A compelling storyline powered by incredible cinematography makes the whole experience even more enjoyable.

Abraham delivers a performance as convincing as his blows. The entire cast, in fact, has done justice to their characters, irrespective of the screen-time. Jacqueline Fernandez, however, does not have much to do, but she does light up the screen whenever she appears on it. Rakul Preet Singh as Dr. Jiyaa, the mastermind behind the super soldier program, pulls off her characters really well. Prakash Raj, who plays Arjun’s boss Subhramanium, and Elham Ehsas as terrorist Hamid Gul are exceptionally good.

The major highlight of the film is its technical department. Kudos to the entire technical team for a never-seen-before experience. Director and writer Lakshya Raj Anand successfully builds a plot that engages the audience from the word go.

LOWS: The first half of the film has back-to-back songs which sort of hamper the natural flow of the storyline. The editing could have been a little better.

FINAL VERDICT: Attack is an exciting watch. It might appeal more to the younger generation than the older one. The team tried to experiment with a new concept that has never been done before in Hindi cinema and they succeeded well. John Abraham’s fans are going to love him in the new action avatar. I am going with 3 stars.
