Known for starring in a series of successful action films, including Force (2011), Commando (2013), and Khuda Hafiz (2022), actor Vidyut Jammwal begins new innings as a producer with this Friday’s release IB 71. Apart from donning the producer’s hat, he also plays the male lead in the high-profile spy-thriller, alongside Vishal Jethwa and Anupam Kher. Will he manage to deliver yet another box-office hit with IB 71? BollywoodMDB reviewer has seen the film and here is what he has to say about the same. Read the details review of IB 71 only on BollywoodMDB before booking your tickets for the weekend.

STORY: The film centres on a highly classified mission carried out by India during the Indo-Pak Conflict in 1971. Dev Jammwal (Vidyut Jammwal) is considered one of the best spies India has ever produced. And when he learns that Pakistan is planning to wage war against India within 10 days, Dev has to come up with a bulletproof plan to prevent the attack and save his country. What plans Dev has in mind? Will he succeed in protecting his nation from the neighbouring enemies? To know this and much more, watch IB 71 in the theatre closest to you.

HIGHS & LOWS: IB 71 is a well-crafted thriller powered by cohesive writing, competent direction, and impeccable performances from the entire cast. Vidyut Jammwal shines in his role as spy Dev Jammwal. There is no denying the fact that he is one of the best action heroes of Indian cinema and he proves his mettle in action one more time. The actor gets some brilliant scenes and nails them with a panache. Actor Vishal Jethwa surprises with his performance. After impressing audiences with his performance in Mardaani 2 (2019) and Salaam Venky (2022), he delivers a class act again in IB 71 as Qasim Qureshi. Anupam Kher is also terrific as a high-profile government official.

However, the major fault in IB 71 is its slow first half. You have to invest some time into the film before you start enjoying it. The film, however, keeps you on the edge of your seat in the second half where you get to see a barrage of nail-biting moments. Filmmaker Sankalp Reddy, who is known for The Ghazi Attack (2016), once again makes a film that is totally paisa-vasool. In a film like this, the background score plays a crucial part and IB 71 has a great background score that goes well with the storyline.

FINAL VERDICT: IB 71 is a well-made thriller that keeps you hooked to the screen for most of its run time. Vidyut Jammwal and Vishal Jethwa are the backbone of the film and deliver excellent performances. I am going with 3.5 stars.
