Confirmed: Akshay Kumar’s Rowdy Rathore to get a sequel
If you loved Akshay Kumar’s 2012 blockbuster Rowdy Rathore, rejoice, as the film is getting a sequel soon. Yes, renowned writer KV Vijayendra Prasad, who wrote the original film, has confirmed that he is currently scripting the sequel.
Talking to a leading publication, Prasad said that he is currently writing the script for Rowdy Rathore. He added that Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who co-produced the film, approached him to write the sequel. He also said that he should be able to complete the script soon.
A source in the know informs that Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha are set to return to reprise their characters, but the story will not pick up from where it ended. “Sonakshi Sinha will reprise her role of Paro. While the principal characters of Shiva and Paro are expected to remain in the sequel, the story will not pick up from where Rowdy Rathore ended. This will be a completely new narrative,” the source divulges.
Co-producer Shabinaa Khan had earlier announced that Rowdy Rathore 2 would hit the marquee in 2019, but the project failed to take off on time.
The source goes on to add that the team is looking at beginning production towards the end of 2022. “The script will be ready in the next few months, and the movie is expected to go on floors in the end of 2022,” the source concludes.
