‘Devdas’ cost a costly Rs 50 crores to produce, and Bhansali was informed that the film was cursed. The filmmaker had difficulties, but he persisted. Not only that, but back then, the movie's sets were also burned down.
In a previous interview, Sanjay Leela Bhansali said, “People said this film is jinxed, this film brings bad vibes, you should shut down this film, this will be in losses. The set caught fire, Bharat bhai (producer Bharat Shah) was also in trouble, I was in a problem, Shah Rukh Khan was in a problem. We were all suffering,” as reported by Wild Films India.
Additionally, the producer of the movie was detained for his apparent involvement in the criminal underground, and a section of the ‘Devdas’ set was set ablaze. When discussing the subject, Bhansali said, “You don’t get anything in life easily. You have to work hard. Maybe it was bad timing, maybe it was our test that for how long can we sustain our passion.”
‘Devdas’ is a story about a loser, several people informed Sanjay Leela Bhansali, adding, “It is no more a story of a loser. It is a story of all of us being winners.
