Farhan Akhtar made an exciting announcement last month regarding the third chapter of his renowned series, ‘Don’, and revealed Ranveer Singh as the new face of the character. This news saddened fans of superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who had been looking forward to his return to the role. Ranveer Singh's first appearance as the new ‘Don’ sparked an internet craze. Farhan discussed the casting shift and the reasons for parting ways with Shah Rukh in a recent interview. He was also enthusiastic about getting Ranveer on board for the project.
Farhan Akhtar recently spoke with Variety on the casting change for the legendary character of Don, which went from Shah Rukh Khan to Ranveer Singh. Farhan revealed that he and Shah Rukh couldn't agree on the story's direction, so they mutually decided to split ways.
He said, “I’m not in the position of replacing anybody. These are things that we discussed over the years, I wanted to take a certain direction with the story, somehow, we just couldn’t find common ground. We just parted mutually knowing that it’s probably for the best. So that’s where it is.”
Farhan Akhtar expressed his delight over Ranveer Singh starring in ‘Don 3’, stating that the latter is ecstatic about the project. He stated, “I’m really excited Ranveer’s on board. He’s so charged and so ready to go. It’s a big film, just purely from the point of view of an actor, it’s a big thing to do, and we’re really excited to have him on board. His energy is energizing us, so to speak.”
Ranveer in a handsome and charming avatar delivered striking dialogues in the film's first look trailer. The Gully Boy actor has stated his intention to commemorate the legacies of Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan, who were both praised for their depictions of Don.
The production of the film is slated to begin in 2025, and sources say that Kiara Advani is being considered as the female protagonist.
