With time, LGBTQ community representation in movies has increased and has been normalised. From showing the struggles that they go through to just telling their tales, stories revolving around the queer community have evolved with time. As the Pride month that is dedicated to the community is coming to an end, let's revoke some of the actors who have played some memorable queer characters and broke the stereotypes .

1. Gulshan Devaiah - Badhaai Do:

In the movie, it was a pleasant surprise for everyone to have Gulshan Devaiah as Guru Narayan, the love interest of Rajkummar Rao. Known for doing some memorable roles, Gulshan made sure the gay character that he portrayed was away from any kind of stereotype, making Guru one of the lovable gay characters in the Hindi film industry.

2. Ayushmann Khurrana - Shubh Mangal Zyada Savdhaan:

Ayushmann Khurrana plays the role of Kartik who falls in love with Aman played by Jitendra Kumar. Ayushmann gave an absolutely natural, convincing performance, making us believe that love can come in any form.

3. Rajkummar Rao - Badhaai Do:

Though fiction, Rajkummar Rao’s character Shardul’s situation of getting into a Lavender marriage is inspired from many such real life incidents. And Rajkummar justified this role as any other of his other characters that he has portrayed on screen.

4. Isha Talwar - Saas Bahu Flamingo:

Isha Talwar plays the role of hardcore who is part of the drug selling business run by her mother-in-law. Apart from her acting, she is also known for her sizzling chemistry with Monica Dogra. Isha carefully portrayed the role of a woman who has two different lives.

5. Madhuri Dixit - Maja Ma:

This is a queer tale which stars Madhuri Dixit as Pallavi Patel, the key protagonist. Dhak Dhak girl played the role of an Indian girl who suppressed her sexuality because of society. Madhuri, with her charismatic performance, established that homosexual characters can be represented in simple ways too.

6. Vaani Kapoor - Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui:

We might have seen movies based on gay characters but there are very few based on transgenders being the main characters. In Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui, Vaani Kapoor plays the role of a transwoman. Being a very delicate subject, the actor tried to get the details and the effort can be seen on screen.

7. Fawad Khan - Kapoor and Sons:

There are many sub-stories in it and one of them is the story of Rahul Kapoor, played by Fawad Khan, who lives in New York and still has not revealed his sexuality to his family. As the story moves ahead, it shows how the family accepts Rahul’s reality. Fawad did a phenomenal job playing the character and understanding the stillness of it.

8. Bhumi Pednekar - Badhaai Do:

Bhumi’s character in Badhaai Do, who is in love with a woman, but had to marry a man for society, is relatable to many lesbians who face the same situation. Bhumi received rave reviews for her acting in the movie. The actress has always mentioned that being an ally of the community helped her understand her character better.
