Following his breakthrough in Karan Johar's ‘Student of the Year’, Varun Dhawan collaborated with his father, David Dhawan, on an out-and-out comedy, ‘Main Tera Hero’, which was a box office triumph. They followed it up with ‘Judwaa 2’, which was another smash hit, and ultimately got a hat trick with ‘Coolie No. 1’, a direct-to-digital release. Now, according to rumours, Varun Dhawan and David Dhawan will rejoin for the fourth time.
According to insiders close to the development, David Dhawan is poised to direct his 46th film in 2024. "Throughout the pandemic, David Dhawan has been speaking with his writing team on a variety of topics and has finally settled on something that has excited him to take the director's chair for the 46th time. It's a big-budget comedic entertainer that will hit theatres in 2024. Varun is also really pleased to return to the comedy world with the king of comedies," a source close to the project claimed.
According to the source, it's an original story with romance and music as the backdrop. "It's a typical David Dhawan comedy, with the protagonist set against a romantic backdrop. David Dhawan is a master in this field, and he has brought on fresh writers to stay up with today's sensitivities while preserving his own flavour of humour. The film will be released around the holiday season, and an official announcement will be made soon," the insider stated.

Varun will finish filming for the Atlee and Murad Khetani Production, provisionally titled ‘VD 18’, before moving on to David Dhawan's next feature. He is also in talks for a rom-com with Dharma Productions and Shashank Khaitan. Over the course of four decades, David Dhawan has directed 45 films and has a remarkable success rate, adapting to newer means of filmmaking along the way. His next film would be the first in his professional career's fifth decade, which says something about longevity.
