One of Shah Rukh Khan's most successful films, Chennai Express, continues to do well at the box office. The impact of the smash hit "Lungi Dance" on its overall popularity cannot be downplayed. The song, which Yo Yo Honey Singh both composed and sang, was a tribute to the iconic actor Rajinikanth and generated a lot of excitement before the film's release. But suppose SRK wasn't a fan at first.
Honey Singh has revolutionized the Indian commercial rap market with his many chart-topping singles. When he finally got the chance to sing and write for a film featuring Shah Rukh Khan, it was the turning point for him. He did a lot of work, and we got the Lungi Dance music as a payoff. But SRK declined at first, and the reason why is explained below.

Yo Yo Honey Singh mentioned the movie Chennai Express and its memorable Lungi Dance number when chatting with Raj Shamani. He stated, “Shah Rukh Khan called me after listening to ‘Angrezi Beat’ and asked me to make a similar song. I said ‘No, tell me what is the vibe of your film’. He narrated his film for 3 hours. I told him I will create something for him and will come back only if the song will be a super hit. I made ‘Lungi Dance’ and he didn’t like it. I told him, ‘Chahiye toh theek hai, nahi chahiye toh main isko single release kar dunga (Take if you want to, else I will release it as a single). This will work.”
Later on, Shah Rukh Khan included the Lungi Dance by Yo Yo Honey Singh, which went on to become an international phenomenon.
When asked by PTI about the song, Shah Rukh Khan once exclaimed, "I found it very apt for Rajini sir and wanted to be a part of it as a fan of one of the greatest actors we have." Even Deepika is a tremendous admirer of Rajini sir, therefore, she readily consented to be a part of the song at my request. This tune is upbeat, joyful, and quintessential Rajinikanth.
