Aishwarya Rai Biography

Aishwarya Rai is the only Indian International Star of Bollywood. She is a Former Miss World and a prominent member of Bachchan family. Aishwarya is married to Abhishek Bachchan which makes Mega star Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan her in-laws. She has a baby girl named Aaradhya.

Rai was born on November 1, 1973 into a family of Bunt community in Tulu Nadu.Her father Krishnaraj Rai is a Marine biologist and her mother Vrinda Rai is an author.Her brother Aditya Rai is an engineer with the merchant navy and had produced Rai's movie 'Dil Ka Rishta'.She came back to Mumbai after her birth as her parents were settled in Mumbai to earn for their livelihood.She has done her schooling from Arya Vidya Mandir Secondary school. Her first modeling assignment came when she was just in the ninth grade of her school.It was for Camlin Pencil. After graduating from secondary school Rai studied in Jai Hind College for one year and then took admission in D.G. Ruparel College to complete her junior college. At the same time she did some modeling assignments and TV commercials. In 1991, she won Ford's Supermodel contest and featured in Vogue magazine in America. After dropping the idea of doing an M.B.B.S Rai took up an architecture course at Raheja college but soon dropped out to pursue a full fledged modeling Career. In 1994, she was crowned Miss World.

Aishwarya started her filmy career through a Tamil Movie 'Iruvar' (1997) directed by Mani Ratnam. She garnered good reviews for the same. In the same year, she featured in a Hindi movie 'Aur Pyar Ho Gaya' which was not well received any ways. In 1998, her Tamil Film 'Jeans' which was also dubbed in Hindi got her some good commercial success. She got the real acclaim in Hindi Movies through 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam' for which Rai won a Filmfare award for the best actress.Her next hit was Subhash Ghai's 'Taal'.It was followed by another big hit 'Josh' alongside Shah Rukh Khan She was critically praised for 'Hamara Dil Aapke Paas hai'. She featured in YRF movie 'Mohabbatein' and played the love interest of Shah Rukh Khan.The movie proved a 'Blockbuster'. In 2002, she appeared in 'Devdas' and won Filmfare best actress award.She got rave reviews for her role of a young Widow in Rituparno Ghosh's 'Chokher Bali' a Bengali movie. In 2004, she featured in Gurinder Chadda's English movie 'Bride and Prejudice'. She appeared in 'Raincoat', a critically successful movie by Rituparno Ghosh. Then she appeared in Paul Mayeda Berge's movie 'Mistress of Spices'. In 2005, her item number 'Kajra re' in 'Bunty aur Babli' became a popular soundtrack. In 2006, she came back with a blockbuster 'Dhoom 2'. In 2007, she starred in Mani Ratnam's Master piece 'Guru' along with Abhishek Bachchan after which the two got married. She then appeared in Jag Mundra's English Drama 'Provoked'for which she was greatly lauded by one and all. She also featured in 'The Last Legion'.In 2008, she starred in Ashutosh Gowarikar's Period film 'Jodha Akbar' where she played Jodha. But after that she did some movies which were not well received though being big budgeted like 'Action Replay','Raavana','Guzaarish' etc.'Guzaarish' received a great critical acclaim. It got the nominations and awards in various awards ceremonies.Later, in Hollywood she starred in hit suspense-drama 'The Pink Panther 2'.In 2010, she featured in 'Enthiran' ('Robot'), her last Super Hit. Aishwarya commonly called as Ash remained in media focus for some of her personal affairs. She has also done some humanitarian work. She has achieved various milestones and awards for her Acting,Beauty and Persona all over the world which no other Indian actor could achieve. She is also a recipient of the Padma Shri award.
