Ajay Devgn Biography

Having worked in every genre, Ajay Devgn is a well known Star of Indian Cinema. He is also a director and a Producer. Ajay was born as Vishal on 2nd April, 1969 to Veena and Veeru Devgn, a well known Stunt Choreographer of 80's. Ajay is of a Punjab origin. Ajay's better half is actress Kajol. They have two kids Nysa, a girl and Yug, a boy. Ajay's brother is Anil Devgn who is a director. Ajay studied in Silver Beach High School and Mithibai College, Mumbai. Ajay owns a production house, Ajay Devgn Films. Though considered quiet by the media, his co-actors suggest him to be a Prankster.

Ajay debuted in film Industry in the year 1991 with 'Phool Aur Kaante'. He received a Filmfare Award for best Debut Male for it. In the movie Ajay's Entry was action packed as he was shown standing on two bikes running parallel in motion. Devgn's next release 'Jigar' opposite Karisma Kapoor was a success too. Then he had a hard luck for a couple of years as his films failed.

In 1994, he delivered a super hit again with Harry Baweja's 'Dilwale' after which, he featured in successful movie 'Suhaag'. He had to refuse 'Karan Arjun' as the dates were clashing with 'Vijaypath', which turned a hit at the end. In 1995, he appeared in critically acclaimed 'Naajayaz'. His pairing with Kajol in movies like 'Hulchul' and 'Gundaraj' brought them closer. He then starred in 'Haqeeqat' with Tabu, in 'Jaan' with Twinkle Khanna which went successful. Harry Baweja's 'Diljale' was a major hit in 1996. In 1997 he starred in multi starer 'Ishq' along with Aamir Khan, Kajol and Juhi Chawla. 1998's 'Major Saab' was a hit. Romantic drama 'Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha' was third highest grosser of that year. But it was 1999 movie 'Zakhm' which won Ajay a National Film Award for Best Actor. He also featured in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Blockbuster 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam' in that year. He had some mixed luck later years.

In 2002, he starred in Ram Gopal Varma's 'Company'. He won the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor for it. His splendid performance in Rajkumar Santoshi's 'The Legend of Bhagat Singh' won him his second National Film Award for best actor, deservingly. He starred in successful 'Bhoot' and 'Deewangee'. In 2003, he was critically praised for super hit movie 'Gangaajal'. His next 'Khakee' also performed well. 'Yuva', 'Raincoat' and 'Apaharan' were critically acclaimed. In 2006, he delivered a blockbuster 'Omkara'. In the same year he showed his sense towards comedy with Rohit Shetty's 'Golmaal' which was so successful that it went to have 2 more super hit sequels. He tried his hands in direction in the movie 'U Me Aur Hum' but did not come through. His other hit movies are 'Halla Bol', 'Raajneeti', 'Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai', a blockbuster. He was seen in 'Rascals' and 'Tezz'. His movies 'Singham' and 'Bol Bachchan' went very well with the audience. He was last seen in Hit 'Son Of Sardaar'. Ajay has done numerous different roles grown dynamically over a period of time. He is most liked for his comic and action roles.

Ajay will next be seen in Sajid Khan's 'Himmatwala' a remake of the 1983 movie with the same name. He is doing the same character played by Jumping Jack Jeetendra in the original movie. After it, Ajay will be seen in Prakash Jha's 'Satyagraha'.
