Akshay Kumar Biography

Action man of Bollywood, Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia a.k.a Akshay Kumar is one of the most talented actors working at today's date in the Bollywood. Born on 9th September 1967 in Amritsar. The handsome hunk is from a Punjabi family. His dad Hari Om Bhatia was in the Army and his mother is Aruna Bhatia. Akshay had a keen interest in dance and martial arts since his childhood. He has grown up in Delhi before shifting to Mumbai. The good looking actor went to Don Bosco School and then in Guru Nanak Khalsa College. Before making a debut in Bollywood, Akshay went to Bangkok to study martial arts. There, he worked in a restaurant as a chef. After coming back to Mumbai, he started giving lessons of the martial arts to the students. The good looking actor was suggested by his one student to try his luck in modeling. He tried and worked as a model for some time. After some assignments, Akshay was cast as a lead role in the film 'Deedar' in 1992. But the actor made his debut into the acting through the film 'Saugandh' followed by action thriller 'Khiladi' . He then worked in 'Main Khiladi Tu Anari' followed by 'Mohra'. His both the films that year were blockbusters. He was seen next in 'Yeh Dillagi'. The film was also a hit. That year he delivered back to back three hit films 'Yeh Dillagi' ,'Elaan' and 'Suhaag'. Akshay was seen as a brave action hero in these films. He used to prefer to do his action stunts of his own rather than getting the body double for it. He still does the same. All these successful movies made Akshay recognized as one of the successful actors in the Hindi film industry.

The year 1995 proved unlucky for Akshay as his some movies became unsuccessful at the box office. But he bounced back through one film from his Khiladi series 'Sabse Bada Khiladi'. The film was a super hit followed by another hit 'Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi'. In the year 1997 , Action hero Akshay was seen doing something different than his genre. He did a supporting role of a romantic hero in 'Dil To Pagal Hai'. He later appeared in the critically appreciated films 'Jaanwar' and 'Sangharsh'. Akshay's performance in these films got lots of accolades as he proved his mettle into acting in these films.

Akshay again tried something new in 'Hera Pheri'. He tried his luck in the hard core comedy and became successful. The film was funny as the barrel of monkeys. He again was seen as a cool romantic hero in 'Dhadkan' long with Suniel Shetty and Shilpa Shetty. He tried to play a negative role in 'Ajnabee' in the year 2001. His all these films got a good response from critics and audiences. For 'Ajnabee', Akshay has received the Filmfare Award. His next releases were all the comic flicks such as 'Mujhse Shaadi Karogi','Awara Paagal Deewana' ,'Garam Masala' and 'Phir Hera Pheri'. All these films proved successful at the box office. He played the different kind of roles in 'Andaaz','Bewafaa','Aankhen' and 'Waqt'. Akshay was seen transforming from an action hero into the talented actor who can do the films of all genres. Akshay again proved his mettle in acting through his next releases like 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa',' Namastey London' and 'Welcome'. His next 'Tashan' could not do well at the box office but 'Singh Is Kinng' was well accepted and appreciated all over India and in other countries as well.

Akshay's next releases 'Kambakkht Ishq' ,'Action Replay' , 'Blue' and 'Tees Maar Khan' failed at the box office. His 'Patiala House' and 'Thank You' too could not do well. But he again bounced back through the film 'Desi Boyz' which got a warm response from viewers. Till date Akshay has acted in more than 100 films.

In the year 2012, he was seen in Sajid Khan's 'Housefull 2' which is the sequel of his film 'Housefull'. As the prequel did well the box office, 'Housefull 2' became successful as well. Then he appeared in Prabhu Deva's 'Rowdy Rathore' which too was a blockbuster. Later he appeared in 'Joker' and then in 'OMG Oh My God!'. The former failed but 'OMG Oh My God!' did exceptionally well at the box office which had talented Paresh Rawal in the lead role. Akshay was recently seen in the 8th movie of his Khiladi series 'Khiladi 786' and in 'Special chabbis' which was well appreciated by the critics and viewers.

Some of the noteworthy movies of Akshay Kumar are ,'Sainik' , 'Aitraaz' ,'Bhagam Bhag','Heyy Babyy', 'Chandni Chowk To China' ,'Khatta Meetha' ,'De Dana Dan' ,'Tees Maar Khan' and many more.

Over the years, Akshay has turned to film production. Some films which he produced are 'Singh Is Kinng' , 'Khatta Meetha' ,'Patiala House' , 'Oh My God', 'Khiladi 786' etc. Besides film production, the multi Tasker guy has appeared on the small screen too. He was seen hosting the reality shows like 'Fear Factor' and 'Amul Master Chef'. The talented actor has been awarded the sixth degree Black Belt in Kuyukai Gojuryu Karate and highest Japanese honor of 'Katana'. Government of India has awarded him The Padma Shri award and Rajiv Gandhi award for his contribution to the Hindi film industry. Akshay is married to Twinkle Khanna ; daughter of yesteryears Superstar Rajesh Khanna and famous actress Dimple Kapadia. The couple has a cute son named Aarav.

Akshay will be seen next in 'Once upon a Time in Mumbaai 2' ,'Boss', 'Hera Pheri 4' ,'Gutka' , in the remake of 'Seeta aur Geeta' , in the remake of Thupakki and in the remake of Ramana.
