Amala Biography

Seen in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi movies, apart from being an actress, Amala is also an animal welfare activist. Her mother is an Irish, while her father is a Bengali. Amala was born on 12th September, 1968 in West Bengal. She is having an elder sister and brother. Her father was a Navy officer and as a kid, Amala shifted to Andhra Pradesh, when her father was transferred there. Amala was studying in a Catholic school and after that she moved to Kalakshetra in Tamilnadu to be trained in Bharatanatyam.

Amala exchanged marital vows with Southern actor Nagarjuna in the year 1992. In this way, she became a member of Naidu family with her changed name as Amala Akkineni. The couple is having a son named Akhil. Amala gave a temporary pause to her acting career after getting married in 1992 and she made comeback in 2012 with the Telugu flick 'Life Is Beautiful'.

It was T. Rajendar, who gave first break to Amala in Tamil cinema with the film 'Mythili Ennai Kaathali'. The film turned out to be a hit. The movie-buffs made her an overnight star due to big success of this flick and she appeared in around fifty movies. In the movies like 'Shiva' and 'Nirnayam', Amala was seen alongside her husband Nagarjuna. The film 'Shiva' gained her wider acclaim, the movie being a blockbuster. The gorgeous actress left an unforgettable impression in the movies, such as 'Agni Natchathiram' and Hindi film 'Pushpak'. Amala acted in Hindi flicks like 'Dayavan', 'Kab Tak Chup Rahungi', 'Jurrat' and most recently she was seen in 'Listen... Amaya'.

The lady worked with several renowned actors like Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth, Mohanlal, Chiranjeevi and Mammootty. Kumar Bangarappa is the one, with whom she appeared in Tamil films. Mentioning her Hindi co-stars, the list includes Vinod Khanna, Mithun Chakraborty and Aditya Pancholi. Amala even worked with ace Bollywood directors, such as Ram Gopal Varma and Mani Ratnam.

The actress is the founder of a Hyderabad-based NGO named Blue Cross of Hyderabad. This NGO aims at animals welfare and animal rights preservation. Amala is an environmentalist and a vegetarian. She promotes communal harmony and teaches Yoga to women.
