David Dhawan Biography

Comedy king David Dhawan is a renowned director of Indian Cinema. He was one of the major directors of 90's who continues to give hits till today. David aka Rajinder Dhawan was born on 16 August 1960 at Jalandhar, Punjab. His spouse is Karuna Dhawan and they have two kids; Director Rohit Dhawan of 'Desi Boyz' fame and Actor Varun Dhawan who debuted in Karan Johar's ' Student of the Year'. Yesteryear Actor Anil Dhawan is the brother of David. Dhawan is one of the board members in Asian Academy of Film and Television and Asian School of Media Studies where he received an Academy Award.

Dhawan is an alumnus of the FTII institute of Pune. Dhawan began his career as an editor and gradually promoted himself to the direction. Dhawan is known for making comic capers. David started his career in 1989 by directing some average movies. He had a beautiful story of collaboration with Govinda as the two went on to deliver many hit movies. The two had a successful journey and worked together in hit movies like ' Shola Aur Shabnam', ' Aankhen' (the biggest success of David's Career), ' Raja Babu', ' Coolie No. 1', ' Saajan Chale Sasural', ' Hero No. 1', ' Partner' and many more. Other than Govinda David's next lucky charm was Salman as the two had various hits like ' Judwaa', ' Biwi no. 1', ' Partner' and average hits like' Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge' and 'Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya'. Dhawan has also repeatedly worked with Raveena Tandon, Juhi Chawla, Karisma Kapoor, Kader Khan, Shakti Kapoor, Satish Kaushik, Johny Lever and Paresh Rawal.

David is known to make his own kind of cinema and works on his own terms. He considers Director Manmohan Desai as his Mentor. David is also known to have made some unforgettable characters through his movies like Pappu Pager in ' Deewana Mastana', Lucky Bhai in ' Shaadi No. 1', Nandu in ' Raja Babu','Shaadiram Gharjode' in ' Coolie no. 1' etc. Often his movies seem to have been inspired by some old Hindi movies or Hollywood movies. Like repeating actors Dhawan has also repeated the music composers and has delivered a unique kind of music in his movies. He mostly accompanied Bappi Lahiri, Anand-Milind and Anu Malik. But as the time passed he has adopted even new composers of these times like Nadeem-Shravan, Sajid-Wajid, Vishal-Shekar, Pritam Chakraborty etc.

David is back again and is set to tickle the funny bones with ' Chashme Baddoor', an official remake of the hit comic movie of 1981 with the same name. The film will see Ali Zafar, Rishi Kapoor and Siddharth in important roles. He will also be directing son Varun in ' Main Tera Hero'.
