Dharmendra Biography

Originally known as Dharam Singh Deol, Dharmendra is a veteran actor of the Bollywood industry. Apart from being an actor, Dharmendra is also a producer. Also he was the member of 14th Lok Sabha of India and in this, he represented Bikaner constituency in Rajasthan from BJP. Goverment of India honored him with Padma Bhushan Award in the year 2012. He was one of the highest paying actors of his era. Dharmendra had even received Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award for his valuable contribution in the world of Hindi cinema. The brilliant actor was fondly called as 'He-Man' and 'Action King' of film industry.

Dharmendra was born on 8 December, 1935 to Satwant Kaur and Kewal Kishan Singh Deol in Punjab. The actor belongs to a Sikh Jat family. The actor studied at Government Senior Secondary School at Lalton Kalan. The father of the actor was a school headmaster in the same village and the later on, the family shifted its base to Mumbai.

At the same time, Dharmendra managed two relationships. At the age of 19 years, he got married to Prakash Kaur in 1954, while for the second time, he tied the knot with famous Bollywood actress Hema Malini. The film 'Sholay' made both of them fall in love of each other. The actor is having two sons - Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol from his first marriage and Esha Deol and Ahana Deol are his daughters from his second marriage.

Dharmendra is having an enormous list of films on his name. 'Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere' was the debut film of this brilliant persona. The prominent ones among all of them, include 'Sholay', 'Phool Aur Patthar', 'Ayee Milan Ki Bela', 'Anpadh', 'Kaajal', 'Jugnu', 'Maa', 'Azaad', 'charas', 'Anupama', 'Chupke Chupke', 'Loafer', 'Do Chor', 'Aye Din Bahar Ke', 'Aya Sawan Jhoom Ke', 'Samadhi', 'Mere Hamdam Mere Dost', 'Izzat', 'Naukar Biwi Ka', 'Kkatilon Ke Kaatil', 'Bagavat', 'Raaj Tilak', 'Pratiggya' 'Insaniyat Ke Dushman', 'Aag Hi Aag', 'Loha', 'Maidan-E-Jung', 'Dream Girl', 'Naya Zamana', 'Tahalka', 'Hum Se Na Takrana', 'Yaadon Ki Baarat', 'Rajput', 'Sultanat', 'Karishma Kudrat Ka' and to list a few.

Recently, Dharmendra featured in his new avatar in movies like 'Yamla Pagla Deewana', 'Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya', 'Johnny Gaddaar', 'Life in a Metro', 'Tell Me O Kkhuda', 'Apne', 'Om Shanti Om' and 'Yamla Pagla Deewana 2'.

Talking about the awards received by this veteran actor, the list of awards include Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award for 'Ayee Milan Ki Bela', Filmfare Award for Best Actor for 'Phool Aur Patthar', Filmfare Award for Best Actor' for 'Mera Gaon Mera Desh', Filmfare Award for Best Actor' for 'Yaadon Ki Baarat', IIFA Lifetime Achievement Award, Dadasaheb Phalke Ratna Award, 'Icon of Punjab Award' at the PTC Punjabi Film Awards, Zee Cine Award for Lifetime Achievement, 'Actor Par Excellence' at the Max Stardust Awards and many more.

In the year 1983, Deol family incepted a production company by the name Vijayta Films. 'Betaab' was the first film of this production house. The film featured Sunny Deol in lead role. 'Ghayal' was the second film of the production house along with Sunny Deol again. 'Socha Na Tha' was the film through which Dharmendra launched his nephew Abhay Deol in the year 2005.
