Kareena Kapoor Biography

Kareena Kapoor is an Indian film Super star who hails from the very affluent family of Bollywood - The Kapoors. Kareena was born to Actors Randhir Kapoor and Babita on 21st September 1980. Kareena is the granddaughter of the Show Man Raj Kapoor. Actress Karisma Kapoor is her older sister and Actor Ranbir Kapoor is her paternal cousin. Kareena's parents separated when she was too young but got along together in October 2007. Kareena did her schooling at Jamnabai Narsee School, Mumbai and then at Welham Girls' School in Dehradun. She enrolled in Mithibai College to pursue commerce. Then she joined a Government Law College in Chuchgate. But after studying one year there, she went to learn acting in Kishore Namit Kapoor's Acting Institute.

She was offered 'Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai' by Rakesh Roshan but she soon dropped out of the project. She actually debuted in J.P.Dutta's 'Refugee' along with Abhishek Bachchan. After that, Kareena came in many movies but they all proved a wrong choice for her. In 2001, she appeared in Karan Johar's Family Drama 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham' as a young modern girl. The film was a big success but after that Kareena was typecast in several movies. She was also criticized for her overacting in many of her movies. Then she starred in Sudhir Mishra's 'Chameli' which got her the much needed critical acclaim for her role of a Prostitute. She received a 'Filmfare Special performance Award'. Then she essayed some different characters in different genres like Meera in 'Yuva', Aaliya in 'Dev' and many more. She earned a Filmfare critic Award for Best Actress for movie 'Dev'. She then starred in hit 'Aitraaz', 'Hulchul' and 'Bewafaa'. However, she finally delivered an all convincing performance in the critically and commercially successful 'Omkara' directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. She earned a Filmfare award for the same. In 2007 Imtiaz Ali's 'Jab We Met' brought a 360 degree change in her career as the actress shocked one and all for her phenomenal portrayal of a vivacious 'Sikhni Girl' in the movie. This also broke the myth that she was not a hit on-screen with the then boyfriend Shahid Kapoor as their previous 3 films 'Fida' (2004), 'Chup Chup ke' (2006), and '36 China Town' (2006) all had bombed at the box office. She was awarded the best actress award in all the award functions and suddenly acquired her superstardom. But before the film released she broke up with Shahid and went in to a relationship with Saif Ali Khan. Her first movie with Saif 'Tashan' (2008) did not succeed. She first time landed her voice for the animated movie 'Roadside Romeo'. She featured in hit comedy 'Golmaal Returns' (2008) directed by Rohit Shetty and moderately successful 'Kambakkht Ishq' (2009). She then appeared in blockbuster '3 Idiots' (2009) and was lauded. She won Filmfare best supporting actress for the movie 'We Are Family' (2010). She featured in super hit 'Golmaal 3' in 2010. In 2011 she starred in back to back successful 'Bodyguard', and 'Ra.One'. In 2012 her movie 'Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu', 'Heroine' could not do much for her. But her pairing with Saif Ali Khan worked, as their movie 'Agent Vinod' was a well received one. She got married to Saif Ali Khan on 16 October, 2012. 'Talaash' her first post marriage release was well received by critics as well as the audience. Other than being an actress Kareena also has her clothing line for the retail chain Globus.

Kareena is set to appear in two movies in coming year's viz., Prakash Jha's 'Satyagraha' and Punit Malhotra's 'Gori Tere Pyar Mein'.
