Ketan Mehta Biography

Ketan Mehta is a renowned name in the Indian Film Industry. His cinema has got world wide acceptance and he has won many awards internationally too.

Ketan was born in the year 1952 in Navsari, Gujarat. He was schooled in Sardar Patel Vidyalaya in Delhi and later went to Pune to pursue direction course from Film and Television Institute of India, Pune. Actress Deepa Sahi is his better half and has acted in his movies like 'Maya Memsaab' and 'Aar Ya Paar'. They also co-own Maya Academy of Advance Cinematic. He is the nephew of freedom fighter Usha Mehta.

Ketan has tried his hands not only in films, but also directed documentaries and television series. He owns to his credit 10 feature films, seven documentaries and 2 television serials viz, Captain Vyom and Mr. Yogi. He has experimented in different genres like comedy, satire, rebellion, violence and romance.

Ketan's first directorial feature film 'Bhavni Bhavai' was in Gujarati. It won him acclaim, especially for the format of the story. After it, Mehta jumped into Hindi cinema. His most notable movie till date is 'Mirch Masala' which won the Best Film Award at Hawaii. It was released in 52 theatres in the United States. His movies and documentaries have been selected at numerous international film festivals such as the Nanes and the Mocow film festivals. He directed a biopic Sardar based on the life of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Mehta still manages to be in the race and still directs movies, though not so often.

Ketan's next is 'Mountain Man' which will star Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
