Kirron Kher Biography

Kirron Kher is an Indian actress, TV host and Lok Sabha member of Bhartiya Janta Party, born on 14th June 1955 in Punjab, India. She belongs to a Sikh family of Chandigarh. Her mother was a sports and theatre enthusiast in her college days. Therefore, Kirron followed her mother's steps and got a career in acting. While, her sister Kanwal Thakar Singh went on to become an Arjuna Award winning badminton player.

After getting graduated from the Department of Indian Theatre of Punjab University, she married Gautam Berry, a rich Mumbai based businessman and had a son named Sikander Kher from him. Then she tried her luck in Bollywood, but all went in vain. During her struggling days, she met Anupam Kher, who was also a struggling actor then. They both worked together in play called 'Chandpuri Ki Chandabai'.

In 1983, she got her big screen break through a Punjabi film 'Aasra Pyar Da', but that film failed to take off. After this she took a long break.

In 1985, Kirron got divorced from Gautam Berry to marry Anupam Kher, after he debuted in film industry with 'Saaransh'. Later, she did a small role opposite him in 'Pestonjee'.

In mid- 1990s, Kirron marched towards the small screen. There she hosted three TV shows, namely 'Purukshetra', 'Kirron Kher Today' and ' Jagte Raho with Kirron Kher' on ZEE TV.

Finally, she got her big Bollywood break with Shyam Benegal's 'Sardari Begum', which won her the Special Jury National Award. And then there was no looking back. Kirron went on acting in the commercial films like 'Devdas', 'Main Hoon Na', 'Hum Tum', 'Veer-Zaara', 'Fanaa', 'Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna' and many others. Though she is living her passion being a supporting actress, yet she holds her own particular niche, which makes her stand out from rest of all cast in the film.
